Supporting green innovators and cities' capacities to implement solutions improving sustainability
The main goal of the project is to improve the quality of life and health of
the citizens of Albania through the introduction of innovations to improve
sustainability and environmental protection. More than 170 participants will
take part in the two editions of Climathon Albania and prepare at least 15
innovative solutions.
Climathon is a hackathon format where groups of
participatns from startups, technological companies or universities work with
experienced business and technology mentors and city representatives to create
prototypes for innovative solutions. The solutions revolve around specific
challenges that the cities and towns in Albania are currently facing when
trying to become more climate neutral and resilient.
Specific goals of the project are to
1) improve awareness of innovations that can mitigate the effects of climate
change
2) build capacity in cities to implement green and innovative solutions
3) improve practical implementation of innovations in the context of Albanian
cities
4) target and engage state administration employees, who must learn to
cooperate with local innovators
The project partner is ALBICT (Albanian ICT Association). Since 2014, ALBICT
has supported more than 600 innovative projects, 45+ startups, more than 100
events, workshops and bootcamps. In 2018, ALBICT was also involved in the
creation of ICTSlab, an innovation hub that provides training for young people
in the field of information technology, and was also the main organizer of
Climathon Tirana 2022.
The project is co-financed by the Official Development Aid of the Slovak Republic.
